I have been playing this game for a while and i have noticed that because of my computers crappyness that is slows down to about half for about 5 min every now and again. so i was thinking of a mod that allows you to turn off stuff like animations, shadows, and render distance so that the game will run faster

also to edit how much ram the game is allowed to used that would be nice

One of the fn keys turns down terrai. Texture detailing.
Wont help for the huge aliens pathfinding to your base..

Probably they can start caching most of the paths as they are the same for most waves and aliens

Hi, this is problem of pathfinding indeed, (Btw, we do some caching already, there is just probably problem with the balancing of the computation time consumption).
We also plan to make the game much faster by creating it multithreaded in the future, note that this is just alpha, and we didn't want to do some hardcore optimisations too soon.

I think you can fetch some of the path finding code (or just ideas) out of spring rts game engine, already supports multi level path caches, dynamic terrain, basic jam resolution and is proven to be quite fast - games with thousands of units are common.

I have a pretty powerful computer, but when your main disk is under load (lots of copy / pastes ext) the game will completely freeze on the autosave for ~20 seconds, that all I've encountered. The game runs pretty crappy on a laptop chipset though.
