Different situation for me. I Play this game on Ubuntu 14.04lts at work and the update work very well. But on my windows computer at home, i have the 404 error.

I dont know how to get the error logs from this install but i gladly have it on thi spost to help/

Present configuration

windows 10
internet connection 30gbits
Have no anti virus ( i dont pirate, crack or view porn so no need )
Have no firewall but windows 10 one, but also tried with firewall off and get same error

the error pops instant, no delay for connection try or timeout. Look like an update file do not exist but only in ubuntu 64 bit version ?

Updating from within the game worked for me (Tuesday morning, european time)
Right now I checked the download links on https://www.factorio.com/download/experimental and all 4 windows version downloads work for me too.

I was having trouble downloading until I noticed the URL was us2.factorio.com. On a whim, I tried us1.factorio.com, and it downloaded fine.

This workaround worked for me as well.

I edited my /etc/hosts file to point us2.factorio.com to 45.33.26.187 (ip for us1.factorio.com) and the in-game updater worked.

Running on Linux I can confirm us2.factorio.com seems to be the problem:

Code: Select all

15.446 1 packages available to download (experimental updates enabled).

  19.096 Info Updater.cpp:212:  => 404
Trying the /etc/hosts fix now.

us2.factorio.com was kind of stuck, everything should be working correctly by now.

There seems to be some problem with enemies. I constantly get attacked by swarms of the weakest enemies. It slowly starts to slow down the game when an attack occurs. Shouldn't they switch to smaller amount of bigger enemies?

Check the lower right corner. That's a single attack force. I get attacked by swarms like that every couple minutes. I had to expedite repair drones production as I started to loose turrets and could not run from one end to another end of my factory to repair/replace them.

You might want to consider killing of some of those bases (expecially those really close).
On the other hand, that only solves the problem, not the cause. About the latter I have no clue.

In previous versions, biters had a problem actually getting inside a group. Biters would pile up on the perimeter and new members would have a hard time getting in. This was fixed in .6, which means that over a fixed period of time, a group could gather greater number of enemies. In other words, it's not a problem, it's the sudden lack of a problem. :)

Nevertheless, I'll give it a deeper look and see how much this affects the game balance.

It's not the balance I am worried about, it's the performance. Attacks from groups of that size visibly slows down my computer when I am close to the fight.
