When I change the key to spacebar for shoot selected via controls menu option and try to use it when in the car, it doesn't work. It does however work when not in a car.

I changed it back to 'c' and it did work, but I prefer to use C for copy.

Checked and it works fine. There is a "shoot enemy" input which is by default set to spacebar. By having multiple inputs on the same key if one of them consumes input, second one will not get it. I was not able to reproduce the part of it working while outside of the car so i am moving this to Pending.

Ah, ok, thanks for the explanation. For some reason I had it in my mind that it was context driven.

Also, now I see that spacebar does work for selecting enemy targets when in a car, just not for selecting inanimate targets.
