[0.17] map generation bug

This is a map oddity a friend and I found while playing a vanilla multiplayer map together. It was rail world and we tweaked a few ore settings (settings + world attached), but nothing much. The world was first created in 1.17.32, though we are keeping up with all of the experimental updates so it has updated a few times. I love the new ui btw. we have found that in a ring around the edge of our original spawn area map (I think it was about 5-6 map squares outside of our starting render area, but it may be more), there were some map glitches that manifested in the form of a line of terrain change. This meant the ground terrain (the biome/visual only), lakes v water, ores, everything seemed to be reset outisde of that ring and new map was generated. It is visible on the map, a few pictures of which are attached. This may just be caused because of updating the world and new map gen taking place outside of the originally generated terrain, but IDK. It is not necessarily detrimental to gameplay, but it looks rather strange to have a small edge of a copper ore and then just a flat edge.

If you change the map settings (or, sometimes, game version) after generating chunks, the new chunks will use the new map generation settings.

I've seen this reported before, but I can't find it right now.

If you changed settings (by a mod or script) after the map was started, this is normal. If you just changed any settings before starting the map, this shouldn't happen.

What was the case here?
