I was auto-placing electric poles by holding down the left mouse button and right before the pole would be positioned the warning noise was made as if I was too far away to place it. Despite the warning, the pole was placed but no poles were taken out of my inventory.

Can you reproduce what you describe?

Because looking at the code it's not possible for what you describe to actually happen which makes me think something else is happening you aren't aware of.
