[0.13.9] Crash opening mod browser on slow internet [OSX]

Just had a CTD opening the in-game mod browser. My internet is terrible, the mod browser takes a *long* time to open when it works. On this occasion the window opened eventually then the game reported "unable to communicate with mod server" (or something similar) after which it crashed, leaving the process running in the background. OSX El Capitan.

Please upload the log-file.
Did you get the "Factorio crashed" window or did it just close?

just disabling internet your internet connection works
