Each medium has its strengths and weaknesses. Not every topic is easily translatable from one to the other, or digestible for that matter, especially if it's to grip the attention of the viewer. You know, maybe if someone made Solaris into a longer tv series, enough philosophical discussions could be sneaked in - few minutes at a time - to do the book real justice. Though even here I have my doubts.
I was honestly fine with all three of the adaptations (though it' been a while since I've seen those; I can't be sure how I'd react to them today). And they just may give someone a reason to read the book.
