Oooh addicting little diversion there. I got up to painting and decided I needed to actually do something today :D

EDIT: Oops I went back to it.

If the Steam version has blueprints some time before where I currenltly am in the free demo, I'm'a spend the $4 on it. If not, I can't see enjoying manually placing enough stuff to do 72k deliveries.

I saw a game on android, which looks like a bright stroke with factorio. Yes, added a lot of resources, discs, but the mechanics... manipulators, conveyors...

"Sandship: Crafting Factory" from Rockbite Games

Is it collaboration or copying? :?

Heavy inspiration is heavy. I guess that's the price to pay when one creates a game so good and innovative that it gives birth to a new genre bearing the game's name.
Doom-like, Diablo-like, ... Now, people create "Factorio-like" games.

Indeed, it brings popularity that someone begins to imitate this. But it’s sad that the idea is stolen by pieces and profit from it.

While some are indeed just copying mechanics and designs, it is interesting to look at what doesn't get copied in general.
The "factory builder" genre seems to rarely or never copy two-lane belt mechanics, extreme modability, the 2D-only-engine approach, the love for detail (like modability, a rare beast in any genre), and the endless procedurally generated map.
Most also are pure factory builders not featuring any combat.

I don't think, that (apart from Factorio itself) there actually is a play-worthy Factorio-like yet. There are some play-worthy factory builders though...

If the idea is stolen by lots of people it is the best compliment for the idea imo.

Just spotted "Dyson Sphere Program" which was apparently revealed at Tokyo Games Show. Basically "3D factorio in space". Looks intriguing. Early access is announced for 2021, so it's gonna be quite a while until 1.0 i guess.

Gameplay Trailer (probably a re-upload?)

Hi guys, dev team especially - merry xmas to you all and happy new year.

Now can I pay your attention to this little game called Mindustry and more specifically to 2 things that Factorio absolutely must take inspiration from (read steal).

Bridges and junctions! Please-o-please create bridges and junctions that work same as they do in mindustry? That would allow for insane belt optimization.

Thank you

You're assuming that if someone else creates a game inspired by Factorio, the Factorio team loses sales. But why would that be the case?

Competition, as always. If there are multiple similar games, people may sometimes choose to buy only one of them.
There are other games inspired by factorio, and such people buy a different one, and not factorio. should that game not exist, or not be known, they would have bought factorio instead, as Factorio-like games are what they wanted to buy, Factorio sells less, meaning less income for The company. This is normal and how companies, sales, competition, and so on work. More or less.

Erm, yes, I think I understand the principle. That isn't the point. You're assuming that sales of allegedly similar games will hurt Factorio sales, but a game isn't practically identical to another game in the way that, say, store-brand peanut butter is the same as name-brand peanut butter.

Yea, but I like space engineers, and play it, so don't have to buy Emperion or Avorion or other vaugely similar games. If I had seen one of the othera first, I might well have bought it and had no interest in space engineers.

I onlu have so much money to spend on entertainment and only so much time to play. Doesn't matter if there are differences, they are still games with similar niches. So If i want a modular spaceship building game to play, I just play space engineers since I now own it.

Same with Factorio. There are dozens of similar games, and the only one I bought was satisfactory, much later. Doubt I would have gone the other way, because graphics, although since Factorio has a demo it is automatically worth trying.

Early reviews are in, which are very positive indeed. Tech tree is deep, lots of upgrades for this and that. Definitely adding to the buy sometime bag.
