Hi Guys!
yesterday, browsing the steam I found this game https://store.steampowered.com/app/1069 ... in_Mining/ :o :o :o
a shameless copy of Factorio. I say it's a copy because it's not from the same developer. [thetis games]
where's the copyright ???? haha LOL

(Admin.... I don't want controversy, I just showed my find on steam)

It is clearly inspired by Factorio, but just from seeing the list of basic resources, it's just a clone.

That said, given there are already games with similar mechanics, such as "FortressCraft Evolved", "Factory Idle", "Mindustry", and the devs explicitly approved of "Satisfactory" I doubt they would care.

Past that, Factorio started as an attempt to create a standalone expansion of several minecraft tech mods, like Buildcraft and Industrialcraft, but focusing in a different direction. So it isn't even pretending to be fully original (not that such a thing exists in the first place)

Yes, that definitely looks like Production Line. And it is also in the same genre as Factorio.

[Koub] Merging this to the "Games like Factorio" thread, because ... it's a game like Factorio after all.

Try Mindustry, It's more of a tower defence, but still some factorio vibes from it. XD

Yeah see my post above :P
Hypetrain not really started yet with me.
Looks promising but to high expectations can be destroyed quickly.

The ore refined to chests and converted back to loose items back and forth annoys me.

It's out and reviews are not to stellar atm.
Anyone actually gotten it and can share some impressions?

I have not played it myself, but watched hours of others playing it, and generally it seems very unpolished and the mechanics unnecessary restrictive, e.g:
  • A factory building is one tile too small? You have to tear everything inside it down and rebuild it from the ground up, which makes expanding a nightmare.
  • You can not parallel unload train cars and you can only have one train per track without any forking or merging possible.
  • Any one machine producing crates has a maximum amount of "active" crates, so it will stop producing if those crates are still somewhere in your production line.
  • The UI is ugly and confusing.
  • Audio is bad.
  • This is not early access, this is supposed to be finished.
The whole thing seems more like a puzzle game with 3D graphics imo.

Basic mechanics of Factorio is very basic mechanics in industry. Item and production chains are based also from real world. It is quite difficult to make another automation game which is not a clone if you count those as clone. Then you have to count for example all formula racing games as clones of first one. They have curved tracks and very similar cars and mechanics.

I hope that there will be more games based on same idea. Probably there will bee even better one too (from my point of view, I am not interested in player numbers or economic success). I would for example love games which have factorio's production mechanics but more developed warfare or trading systems. Or ultra nerd game with very complex world and need to make PID controllers, other control programs etc. to keep everything work.

Actually I have planned to make some kind of fictive nuclear reactor control game but does not have enough freetime and motivation. It would base thermal conduction and convection and suitable reactive materials. Not very realistic, because real reactors run decades without severe problems and that would be boring, but much more sensitive fission stuff, of course. I never publish it, it would need far too much polishing. I like UI in which you change value in C-code, compile and run and objects are simple colored polygons.

I tried a 'demo' and liked the building of production chains.

The taxes to pay are 2 percent of all sold items so there is no endless mode until the last patch which disables taxes in easy mode.

Sadly it gets repetitive fast as there are only few optimal layouts which all need to be build entity by entity.

15€ and I would buy it

I never said clones are bad. Just saying that it doesn't look like it is doing anything factorio isn't. The other examples have significant differences, despite being inspired.

A clone is fine as long as it goes in a different direction, or puts it's own spin on things.
Rollercoaster tycoon 1 and simcoaster were very similar, and the second was almost certainly intended as a clone, but both are fun and do things differently enough to be good games.

A new budding gem in city management:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/7841 ... _Republic/

Easy to go off the deep end with this one. A bit unpolished, but with incredibly deep gameplay and fantastic graphics. (and no crashes yet) It consumed my Christmas holidays.
