does anyone think that wifi dongles obsolete yet?
and is this topic too off topic for off topic?

I read a user manual for a solar power controller which ships with a USB port reserved explicitly for an optional manufacturer-supplied WiFi dongle; also my last DSL modem has a USB socket for a 3G modem, as a backup internet connection, but there's nothing that says you can't attach a WiFi dongle instead. So, for certain applications, apparently not.

On the other hand, for the average end-user, given that you have to dig to find a device (other than a desktop PC) that doesn't come with WiFi built in, yes, WiFi dongles are probably obsolete.
