When I take a look at the computer science studies here at my university, they are more than 80% equal to a "pure" mathematical study. You won't learn how to program (only the VERY basic things) but more how to design very complex databases, develop mathematical procedures (to understand eg. 3D engine design etc.), A LOT of statistics (for financial mathematic problems als solutions). Cryptographic problems and programs, I can't image to write one without exeptional mathematical knowledge.

I don't think anyone with a degree from these university courses will just only be "a programmer" and write simple code (Except his personal programs as a hobby or long life dream to write a video game ;))

Actually  ..
I'm currently learning code, and we just had a project where we had to setup a 3D game engine using raycasting :)
That was fun
