Possible to delay pause on gameover screen?

I have a sound that plays on player.death but it plays for a splitsecond, then stops. A person on the IRC let me know it's most likely because the game pauses at the game over screen.

Is there any way to play the sound in it's full duration? It's only about 5 seconds. I don't mind it being hacky, as long as it works.

It will work in multiplayer.

I'm actually (pleasantly) surprised to see that the game actually lets you respawn in single player now, previously your only option was to reload.
