inserters that can blacklist items?

Been trying to figure out how to make a smart inserter that can use it's filter as a blacklist, there does not seem to be a flag to define this in the default smart inserters, can I look at where the inserter code is defined somewhere?

Also it seems that inserters are limited to 5 sorting slots somewhere in the code as well, anyone tried to go around this?

I honestly don't know. I would guess at no, but then most things are doable via scripting, so, I can't say.
