it seems it should be damaging the entity.

in this post
[Twinsen][1.1.27] trees heal when healing_per_tick is 0(viewtopic.php?p=541252)
seems this thing is no longer hardcoded

Thanks for the report. healing per tick only works for entities that are updated. Chests do not update and so it will have no effect.
