Terrain seems like a bug

There's a clear line separating one kind of terrain from the other. There's a problem with the left part of terrain since it looks like there's no minerals there.

Is this a save created in one version of Factorio and then loaded into another?

This is normal then. It's a pretty much unavoidable consequence of the changes (improvements, IMHO) in the terrain generation algorithm. New land explored after updating won't match what was generated in a previous version of the game.

*unavoidable
never say never

I did say "pretty much". Yeah I'm sure it would be possible to design some kind of system that would smooth out the transition. I'm just not sure it would really be worth it.

I know the issue of seams after a terrain generator change has been specifically mentioned in the past, same thing happened when 0.16 rolled out. Not sure I could find it easily though.

Also note that this thread has been moved to "Not a bug", I guess the devs figured we answered the question already and didn't feel the need to reply.

Well, terrain producing zero minerals in a zone 3 min distant from starting point is certainly a bug. Saying that "its normal" after a software upgrade is ridiculous.

Hmm. Well if you're really sure minerals are completely absent in the new part of the map (not just rarer than expected), then I would agree that's a bug (not that it's really my call). If so, I would suggest reposing this with a new title more clearly highlighting the problem. Something like "Can't find any new minerals after map migration". Also mention any mods you're using, especially anything related to resources, if any.

I admit that does look like a pretty big area you've explored without finding any ore.

Did you have RSO installed and then remove the mod? Your existing ore patches look like typical RSO patches and removing the mod might leave the vanilla ore generation disabled, depending on how the mod is written.
