Shot myself with artillery. Did not survive, but got the golem achievement.

I can confirm:

The Golem achievement says: Survive a hit of 500 damage or more.

I shot an artillery shell at my friend when he accidentally took his power armor off and he died but still unlocked the achievement.

Might actually be valid. The Artillery Shell deals 500 physical, 500 explosion. My guess is you survive the 500 physical (achievement), but then die to the 500 explosion or vice-versa.

Seems to be working as intended to me

Really? So two damage types are considered different attacks for the purposes of the achivement?
How could that be considered "Working as intended"?

By intending it to work that way. It's perfectly reasonable for it to work that way.

Yes, I understand how "Working as intended" works.
I don't see why that is the way it is intended to work.

If a person is struck by an artillery shell, an autopsy can reliably determine whether they died from the impact or the explosion, because explosions affect dead tissue differently than living tissue. If they died from the explosion, they survived the impact.

Should surviving the impact count for something, or does it only matter that they're dead now?

There's no right answer to that, but when you're deciding whether or not to award an achievement, you have to choose an answer.

Its more the question of, Is the artillery strike's damage one event, or two? Like, Cluster grenades, thats more than one hit, obviously. Flamethrower, it has "On Fire" damage and initial damage. Shotgun, that hits a bunch of seperate times.

Artillery. Is it one impact, which has one data entry that says 500 impact, and 500 explosive damage, or is it two different damage events?
If the first, I don't think it ought to be considered two hits for the purposes of "Anything"

Anything which does damage is always its own event. So to answer your question: it's 2 damaged-events.

So anything with two damage types, as closely linked as possible, still triggers two events.
Understood.

While I don't think the achievement should work this way, given the way the game logic is setup, it makes complete sense.

While this may not officially be considered a bug, it surely deserves some attention I would think. I mean.....
At the top of the screen I get an achievement for "surviving" notice while, at the bottom left corner.....
I get a different notice saying I was killed by a shell....

Did I survive or didn't I? ... It can not be both...
So why do I see both things at what is "one event" from the player's perspective?

Suggest moving this thread out of "Not a bug", and into "Ideas and Suggestions" where it may one day get some attention.
