station blueprints without track can't be placed on track

Make a (named) station blueprint, without including the track segement it's attached to. Then place the blueprint. It will place unattached to track, and can't be placed attached to track.

Ah ... ok, so it will attach to the track if you rotate the blueprint appropriately. However, it still lets you place it if it is rotated wrongly.

Can you explain why this is not a bug? I'm able to place and then build something with a blueprint that can't be placed by hand.

Your report originally stated that it would not be possible to connect the train station, which is simply incorrect. If you would make a report that you can place unconnected train station ghosts it would be a duplicate:
