https://mods.factorio.com/mod/ThickerLines is a mod that makes the wire sprites thicker/wider/bulkier so they are more visible. It works great, except for vertical wires which stubbornly remain 1 pixel wide.
Example:
Suggested fix: For wires closer to vertical than horizontal (so, about half of all wires), rotate the sprite 90 degrees before mapping its endpoints and stretching it, possibly also changing the stretching mechanism.
[1.1.53] Wider wire sprites do not affect vertical wires
Re: [1.1.53] Wider wire sprites do not affect vertical wires
Thanks for the report. This is not a bug.
If a vertical wires would be required to be rendered as wider, there should be a modding interface request for a separate wire sprite used when rendering vertical cables. If an existing sprite of a wire (that includes the bending due to gravity) would be rendered wider than 1 pixel for vertical cables, it would be bending left or right instead of down. This would literally need a separate sprite of a non bent wire.
