Bugs that are actually features.

[1.1.48] Inserter graphics overlap trains

Post by nincompoop »

Hi,

I play on linux with the latest amdgpu-pro driver. I noticed a graphic difference between windows and linux versions.

The graphics of the inserter overlap passing trains when they shouldn't. This is most noticeable in the menu intros: the one where an artillery train resuplies an artillery outpost and inserters start unloading.

This is unfortunately a limitation of our 2d engine, we have to fit different render layers between and above different combinations of entity and position offsets,
What we have now we consider good enough

How does that explain a difference in windows and linux? Shouldn't they have the same layer arangement and known Z sorting bugs?

I am pretty sure there are no differences

Do you have screenshots of the difference? A difference could make this an actual bug and not just a accepted limitation of the 2D engine.

You can clearly see the blue inserter overlap the second to last carriage of the train when it shouldn't because the inserter is optically behind the train.

On windows I can clearly remember that this is not the case. I don't have a windows machine anymore (it died) so I can't provide a windows screenshot.

As far as my (admittedly horrible) memory goes, it's always been like this.
My Mods: Classic Factorio Basic Oil Processing | Sulfur Production from Oils | Wood to Oil Processing | Infinite Resources - Normal Yield | Tree Saplings (Redux) | Alien Biomes Tweaked | Restrictions on Artificial Tiles

All right, my mistake. I seem to remember this different apparently.
