I created the following:
It perfectly compresses the bottom line, but it does not do the same to the top one.
I expected both lines to behave equally, regardless of what that may be.

Belts behave differently depending on if they run in the same direction as the update direction or not.

I did not understand this, but it led me to observe that perhaps the reason the top is not compressing is because the plates on the short belt adjacent to the inserter still have to travel the width of the belt in the direction of the top line.
