In the beta selection in Steam, forcing it to 0.12.22 seems to fix the issue.

I set the steam version to 0.12.22, and the game was more stable, however I still received a popup that just read "error".

Also just tried the 0.12.24 beta version. same result.

I've attached the log for that version as well in case that helps!

If you have the MSI Afterburner overlay (or any other third-party overlay) enabled, disable them.

Oh man - just got through level 1!

Turning off MSI Afterburner seems to have worked. Thanks for the lightning fast reply.

With what I've seen of the game, and what I've just experienced with how fast your support is, I'd say you guys are going to be doing quite well once the game releases a full version.

Great job - keep up the good work :)

I don't have any overlays enabled (even the Steam overlay), and I still have the issue if I don't force to 0.12.22.

I can't play for more than a minute or two before it crashes on me. Things I've tried after reading this and other threads:

Disabling MSI afterburner's screen overlay

Setting the beta version to 12.22

Adding "--force-d3d" to the launch options

thread hijack because crash on steam fits.
my game doesnt even load properly, fresh install, and while loading i get this message at 2%: No loader found for "rail"

i am confused, this is a fresh non modded install.

EDIT(by posila): Removed unnecessary image; also this is unrelated issue to this thread

Please don't hijack threads in Bug Reports (and in other forums).

Although you have installed the Steam version the mods are stored in the same directory as the website version, in the Application directory (usually C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Factorio).
Delete the mods folder in there and it will work.

I thought of something that might be a possible cause. I originally bought the game a year or two ago, played it for awhile, and the steam version coming out made me go "oh yeah, Factorio, I haven't played that in awhile." I didn't uninstall the old version or clear out anything in appdata before installing the steam version. I didn't use any mods or anything, but who knows, might be some legacy file throwing a wrench into the works. I'll try deleting everything related to Factorio on my PC and re-installing it via steam.

Is there anything outside of the folders in %appdata% and the old Factorio install location that I may need to remove?

No. that should be it.

Nope, didn't fix it for me. If it helps, here's my crashlog after deleting everything and reinstalling (and disabling MSI Afterburner Screen Overlay)

Code: Select all

ERROR: SymGetLineFromAddr64, GetLastError: 487 (Address: 00007FFF66B94249)
00007FFF66B94249 (GameOverlayRenderer64): (filename not available): OverlayHookD3D3
Do you have any other programs running that create an overlay/OSD, video capture software or an FPS limiter? Maybe even disabling steam overlay might help.

Also, try adding --force-opengl to the launch settings (instead of --force-d3d).

I added that to the launch settings, completely closed MSI Afterburner, and disabled the steam overlay, and it seems to be working now.

Thanks for the help! But I really hope overlay support is added before too long, I use the steam overlay to chat to people while playing a lot, and I feel kind of nervous playing any game without my GPU temperature on screen, since my graphics card is finnicky and prone to random overheating.

If --force-opengl did the trick then I think you can enable steam overlay again without problems.
The problem with the MSI Afterburner overlay was unexpected, as it only seems to happen on the steam version.

--force-opengl with steam overlay seems fine so far (2-3 hours, no crash).
