[0.12.10] Bad exception handling using duplicate mods

Observed behavior: using a zip and an extracted folder structure of the very same mod, the application closes itself after confirming a message box.The following log message will be generated: Error Util.cpp:46: Duplicate mod *MODNAME*.
Expected behavior: The application must not close itself after recognizing a bad game data state. Instead, there must be a mechanism to choose a version which is preferred, e.g. the zip file. Already correctly identified that both mods are identical the game can easily recover from this unusual state.

And what if they are not identical? I believe that forcing the player to have the mod folder well organised is a good thing.
