Auto-building, train-logistic-supplied turret walls

Post by leoch »

These took me quite a while to get right. I think they're now 99% there.

The walls themselves come in three modular sections: a straight (N-S or E-W), a diagonal (NW-SE or SW-NE), and a (tiny) corner section. They are armed with ordinary turrets (here long-range version) and flame turrets. They have enough space to install a second row of turrets, if necessary.

The main wall modules each have two roboports, a station, and are designed such that they can build the station and first roboport of the next module, but with a single tile gap so that each roboport network is independent. Concrete bases are supplied for each module, but it's suggested you build them separately (otherwise the construction robots will spend most of their time on the concrete).

Each module is sent a list of materials it should have in stock on the circuit network, and requests trains automatically to keep stock levels (train is called when for any item R > 2S, where R is requested amount and S is stock). Each module has a single storage chest, with all contents sent back to the supply station.

The supply station itself is quite complex, since it needs to load approximately 30 different items onto two carriages as well as unloading any unwanted contents. It uses a smart belt (basically, a bot-less logistic system) for most of the items.

Mods required: Usage:
  • Build your supply station, and either an L-CC or L-CC-L train. (The station can go at either end, but it's important the train doesn't turn around. Ammo goes at the back.)
  • Supply any resources you want: concrete, walls, oil barrels and ammo on the top two belts, all other items on the "smart belt" (only when the red circuit on the big pole has a positive count).
  • Build the "supply requester" (3 constant combinators). The top two should be connected to the perimeter's greed circuit, and the bottom one (with ammo) to the red circuit.
  • Place the first wall module blueprint. The wall can only self-build in a counter-clockwise direction around your base.
  • Connect the train track and circuits to the big poles. Build at least the station and unloading circuitry.
  • Rename the train station (and all future ones) to "Perimeter" and set your train to cycle between the supply station and "Perimeter". (Unfortunately station names aren't copied from the blueprint.)
The station should now disable itself when it no longer needs resources, and re-enable itself when it does. When you place the next module blueprint (the big poles at the end should overlap), the next module should build itself.

Caveats: the storage chest in the supply station sometimes gets clogged; every new station must be renamed; the walls may need defending during construction.
