I was playing around on my new save file and discovered that you can put inserters between boilers, so you can have a long chain of boilers without having to mess around with running a line of coal to each of them.
P.S. I am not sure if this is common knowledge or not, but I haven't seen anyone use it.

Nice find! There some people who know about this trick and do actually use it, but I don't think it's common knowledge. Pretty neat trick actually, and works quite well to save space for sure. Wish more people did know about it.

Re: Compact boiler design
yes it is out there, the peaple that use it with Long handed inserter useing 14/10, with the 14 Boiler lineed up.
there is one bug with this low. if you do a long line of them going rigth to left wen/if run out of Fuel. all the Fuel gos to the rigth so you lost Steam engine lines one at a time and you may not see till all fule is gone.
runing fule lines to all the boilers there is a lot more fule to see so more like to see befor you run out.
