Yes. It has been done, many times.

Had to create an account just to say that this creation is fantastic!

I'm not sure I want to think about how long it took to do this but just wow!

Amazing job... just whoa.

0.15.0: 6-14 FPS depending on zoom, 12-14 UPS depending on zoom :-)

I just updated to 0.15.2. Got 16 FPS/UPS when zoomed out to show the entire display! Impressive!

What's the technique for loading the memory? Do you edit the save file with a script?

A few days too late. ^^

Actually, this speaker set-up seems a LOT more powerful, it just doesn't have the fancy colours:

This looks great! I was about to try and make one, but your design looks nice and clean. And it has screens :o :D Great. :)
I'm just wondering if you could turn this into an "actual" (infinite-memory) turing-complete machine by using the recursive blueprint mod, or so. I mean, infinite up to the limitations of Lua and the game, i.e. 31 bit numbers etc. Or up to the limitations of the computer that runs the game, whichever collapses first. ^^

If you don't mind, I'll copy some of your parts and try some random things with them.

This was actually the video that got me interested in factorio :) Glad I found it again.

Conway's game of life has been done in Factorio and appears in some of the teaser videos on Steam. Conway's game of life itself is Turing complete, so yes, this has been done. And I don't think you'd even need to do any Lua scripting to make it happen.

IMHO, using Lua scripting to make a turing complete computer in Factorio would be cheating anyway.

BTW, to the original topic, the video player is an amazing piece of work. I would never have the patience for something like that, nor do I know enough about how video decoders work :D .

but seriously how did you encode the video into memory?a step is missing here and its the hardest step of them all

that is impressive .. it plays really well on my rig UPS is avg 25 tho it does drop to about 14 but my frame rate eek 11fps low 22fps high

used the infinizoom mod so i could watch the whole frame when i got the above .. if i don't and keep the default i get UPS in the 30s at 30fps because not much is in frame at the max vanilla view compared to the actual full frame

ran it on

X399 chipset
threadripper 1950x 16core 32 thread at 3.97ish Ghz WC
GTX 1070Ti 6GB 256b due for a second might run this again when that happens
m.2 2.5GB/s read SSD

game is .16v and is set to max settings 32thread aswell

actually takes a few seconds to load eek

i work in the idea of why wait for the devs to make the game faster when you can just over kill the s**t out of your computer

really tho the computer above is more for other things tho its great for gaming when the need arises

did you encode the video by hand or write it into the save via a program? either way its brill

Years later looking at this I still figure it'll take me a few days of staring to digest it. Another bravo from me.

Another update to 1.1:
V1.1

P.S.: I added a little timed on switch so you can get to the middle and zoom out before it starts
P.P.S: /c game.player.zoom=0.1
