Name: Miniaturization
Version 1.0.1
Requires Factorio 0.12+
Get it on the mod portal!

Introduction:

Running out of space to add lanes to the main copper line? miniaturize your copper plates so they fit! This is the ultimate scaling mod!

This mod allows potentially infinite density / scaling without breaking the game. There's tech and cost requirements to keep it challenging while satisfying.

To allow a truly infinite-scaling factory without clutter, I recommend it with factorissimo, and a barreling mod (for any liquid). Any items can be packaged without modification, should be compatible with most mods, including bob's etc.

This is my first mod :) I'm looking for balance, art, or feature suggestions and people to test!

Description:

Adds two types of inserters, and a package item.

The minifying inserter grabs items and assembles them into a package. The magnifying inserter undoes the process. Packaging items allow greater denisity and throughput on the belts. Any items can be assembled, however there is only one package item. The package contents are remembered internally but cannot be seen until depackaged. Dissimilar packages do not stack. The assembling process can be composed in a hierarchy, which has additional tech requirements. The last tech level allows infinite throughput at great cost.

This mod is highly recommended to use with Factorrissimo Mod for truly infinite scaling factories without clutter.

Nice mod, the Rubik's Cube looks out of style for rest of game. Maybe use a more conventional crate icon?
Example Images
You could then different crates styles for different tech levels - so player can see visually the capabilities of the crates that are being moved around. Are they just basic single-item-type crates, or more advanced crates?

Optionally have requirement for player to make the crates in advance, rather than just having them appear outof nowhere. If you have different visualisation for empty vs. full crates, then the gameplay would change:

* Player has to make crates (much like they make barrels)
* Get those crates to the packing inserter
* At the extracting inserter the empty crates are sent back to packing inserter
> * Player could pack the crates to send them back lol

I noticed that after using your mod, regular inserters are sort of broken in sense that they have lost their stack size bonus.

Regular fast inserters only move stuff one at a time from chests to belts. Stack inserters seem to work fine.

Thanks for the bug-report and suggestions! Some of it is hard to do, but I have just released version 1.0.2 with some updates. Also added a better screenshot to explain what this mod is all about.

Changelog:

Features:

- Smaller item icon to fit better with other icon sizes.
- Animation change of the inserters

Bugfixes:

- No longer removes the regular-inserter stack-size bonuses. (save games with the old version active may still be broken)
- Correctly waiting for tech level 3 before enabling infinite stacking
- Items no longer disappear from the internal cache when picked up by player or robot. May spill on floor if no space.

Any idea if it's at all possible to somehow reset the normal inserter stack size bonus? Some sort of console command or something, perhaps.

Yes, uninstall 1.0.1 version of the mod, open your save game, then hit ` to open console, then type

Code: Select all

/c game.player.force.inserter_stack_size_bonus=3
(replace 3 with the total number of bonuses you should have from research)

Then save game. Hope that helps :)
