[MOD 0.17.x] Easy Refineries

Post by Ranakastrasz »

Easy Refineries

Description:
  • This is an early game varient of Specilized Oil Refineries by Walter.
Instead of requiring a higher tier structure to produce varying types of oil, once you probably already have a cracking setup and don't need it, it instead gives you it initially. In addition, once you get Advanced Oil, you can get an increased oil yield by dealing with the vanilla oil splitting.
Details:
  • Factorio Version: 0.17
  • Released: June21th 2016
  • License: MIT License
  • Tags: Oil

Hi Ranakastrasz!

This mod is used in every single game I play. Any plans for .16 support?

Huh. I didn't realize anyone was using this. I haven't used it for a while.

Yes, I plan to update all of my mods. This one will probably be easy.
Only thing that might be a problem is the Icons.

Probably will be within a week, but it depends on when I have time.

One thing I've never nailed down (in 1300+ hours) is oil production. Actually I should say "to my liking", as I have run without the mod in the past.

But it just makes this part of the game so easy. So I say thank you! It may seem like a small thing to you, but it is appreciated.

Merry Christmas Dude! Or Happy Holidays... either way, I wish you well.

I have no idea why people find THIS one the most important mod. I personally never use it. I used it for like one game, because oil was scary back then, but once you get used to the mechanics this is entirely unnecessary.

I don't use this mod but I was intrigued by the update feed. I think I see the appeal of it. The first time you get oil up and running, you have all these extra byproducts you can't use (yet). And if you don't get the appropriate sciences up and running fairly quick (which a newer or more casual player may not), they'll start to back up, so you have to put down more tanks or start dumping. And then even when you do get cracking, you need a circuit network setup to keep things balanced.

With a mod like this, you're letting players go at their own pace. They can just focus on say making petroleum for plastic, and worry about setting up lube and acid later. The other variant I've seen somewhere let you simply burn off the byproducts, which also a vet that can get to cracking and do a circuit network refinery quick won't need. But for some it's easier to focus on just one thing at a time.

And I argue that is is necessary, and very appreciated. That's not to say that there are other modders out there who have made the same mod - If you don't want to update it, then no one is forcing you to.

I used to really enjoy the oil production aspects but after 15 games it got... tedious. Now I like building huge bases and having oil produced in it's own areas of the factory, without the concern for proper ratios, circuit conditions, etc. It's like the solar and accumulator ratios too - I prefer nuclear, I think that's far easier ... but that could also be argued. :D
