Description:
You should probably automate more things. With Stamina, hand-crafting stuff will slowly drain health, at a rate of 1 health per second. The vanilla player's max health is 100, so you might want to rethink hand crafting that level 3 module...

Mining (which includes chopping trees as well as picking up placed buildings) also drains health, at the same rate - and they stack, so mining while crafting will drain 2 health/second. Running causes you to regen health slower (but will not penalize crafting stamina drain any further, as in versions pre-0.2.1).

This encourages the use of automation (and gives an early game reason to eat fish, as you craft your first few science packs...) and foresight, as well as providing a minor incentive to use vehicles and paving.

Changes
  • 0.2.1: Damage from crafting/mining does not stack with walking regen penalty. Mod should adapt to new character types added by other other mods. Players in vehicles no longer immune to effects.
  • 0.2.2: Updated for 0.12.11+ compatibility
  • 0.2.3: Fixed error with loading a saved game, because I'm a moron and try to use gamescript in on_load and didn't test that.

Known Issues
In v0.2.0, players in vehicles are immune to stamina drain.

Noone tested this in 0.12 MP yet?

You don't take damage in train or car. :P

It seems to work in 0.12MP.

Fixed, thanks to the new script interface. Also made the mod more adaptive to characters added by mods (or future vanilla), and removed the "walking" health drain when also crafting, so it doesn't stack.

This mod is extremely cool, it's making the game more challenging and more interesting. I really don't understand why it's getting that little attention and why there's so few downloads.

For me personally it's always a must-have mod in the game. Thank you for making it!

This is awesome!. It seems like a better concept to me than some other mods that ban handcrafting outright. I haven't played it yet, but how does the damage work while wearing armor and shields?

The script adjusts your health directly, so it bypasses armor/shield considerations (and doesn't turn your screen red). When your health drops below... I think 10%, maybe 5%, it deals a (very) small portion of the drain as actual damage, triggering the red screen and potentially interacting with armor and/or shields.

I like this a lot. It makes thematic sense and it provides the right amount of pressure toward "hey, you should automate this" without the rigidity of the "no crafting/manual labor at all" mods. Thanks!

Is there a minimum health it will maintain? So I don't accidentally kill myself crafting something?

Also, is it possible to add a modifier to your mining/crafting efforts based on your health? The lower your health, the less stamina you have, the slower you mine/craft as your fatigue increases?

No minimum; you can definitely kill yourself by crafting. I mean, that's kind of half the point. :) However, your screen will flash red (as you do when being an attacked by an enemy) if you're crafting while below 1/8 (12.5%) health.

Currently there is no way I know of to slow down crafting based on health. At least, not in a multiplayer-friendly way (crafting speed is a shared team attribute).

Should be possible to slow crafting now since it is per player.
Also, if you have a shield, the screen doesn't flash at low health.

FYI, this still works in 0.14 if you just change factorio_version in info.json to "0.14".
