[0.11.x] Electricity (More Accumulators&SolarPanels) by XyLe

Post by XyLe »

Working version here: viewtopic.php?f=120&t=23899#p151383

INTRO:

Hello! My name is Mike a.k.a. XyLe, and I present to you this little mod which works with electricity and is intended to make solar power plants more compact, especially in the later stages of the game.

Are you tired of placing thousands of solar panels and accumulators all over the map? – Then this is a mod for you!
MY OWN OVERVIEW OF THIS MOD ON YOUTUBE
IN THIS MOD:

- Vanilla game contents are untouched
- Added 3 more tiers of accumulators
- Added 4 more tiers of solar panels
- Added 1 upgraded substation
- Electrical poles are replaceable
HOW IT LOOKS
Each new item has to be researched and represents an upgraded version of a respective item. Research is done in tiers.
RESEARCH COST
UPGRADE SYSTEM:

Tier [n+1] Solar Panels / Accumulators are 4 times as powerful as tier [n].

1 solar panel/accumulator of tier [n+1] = 5 solar panels/accumulators of tier [n] + 4 circuits [green/red/blue] + 1 science pack of tier [n]
RECIPES
EXCEPT FOR
P.S. I couldn’t really play-test my mod because I don’t play this game so much anymore. So the balance is kinda questionable. I hope you’ll like it anyway.

CREDITS:

The ideas for this mod have been taken from existing mods but since those guys are no longer interested in working on their mods, I decided to make a mod of my own.

Thanks to:

Lime for Compact power
Thurak for Accumulators

Special thanks to: Justin Festa and Palius, Substation MK2 comes from their mod “Increments”

So, you actually decided to put this mod into the wild :)
Good!

I think this mod is more balanced, it's not a 10x improvement like the Compact utilities mod and, because of that, you do not need redicilous amounts of assemblers to do non-stop production.

P.S. How about the miner mod you made? :)

haha, yeah, it's been sitting in my hard drive for months :D yesterday was a super weird day since i had nothing better to do than to prepare and put this mod on the forums.

It's very true that usually people make mods with x10 kind of upgrades, i find it unreasonable, obviously it's way too compact and way too easy to get.

Regarding that miner mod, you know it's not fully made by me, i only rebalanced the existing mod to be able to play a better version myself. So i don't think it would be fair to post it anywhere. But maybe i should ask the author instead of assuming such a thing... i dunno, it's pointless anyways..

So, people, what do you think about this mod?

To me, it's very well balanced and feels almost like it's stock :)

Just think of this like Windows. If everything is fine you do not hear it. If everything is crap you hear of it.

I am just here to look if you released an update.

ps, i liked it.

I dunno what you mean by that. For windows you have to pay , you don't need to show appreciation or thank anybody, in fact i don't like their policy at all, can't thank for that kinda software. What they do they do for themselves to earn money.

And here on factorio forums you get something people share for free, they put effort into these mods to make someone else enjoy their game a lot more. And they deserve at least a thank you, imho.

I think yours was the first 'solar panels + accumulators' mod I've mentioned in my roundup posts on Reddit, so you've probably received a lot of attention for that alone (for instance, the person who commented there saying they were excited for this mod because it includes modded accumulators as well), but you didn't get any comments because those folks were all drive-by downloaders. It's just how it is. Remember the 90/9/1 rule.

Well, thanks for mentioning :) although a lot of attention wasn't my goal, i don't really want any more attention than i'm already getting, so i'm just glad someone liked it and maybe has an opinion on balance , that would be really helpful probably.

i'm sorry i'm unfamiliar with 90/9/1 rule, i'll google it some time probably

In the zip file if you replace /prototype/entity-solar-panels with
https://www.dropbox.com/s/zred2ls7cs61s ... s.lua?dl=0

it will work for 0.12

Hey there,

is the code on github? I'd like to contribute a burst accumulator to the set (costs more, but can be drained more quickly - useful for powering laser turrets, which are a real pain to power right now)

Hi
You need repair it for 12. Go to mod folder next prototypes, next entity-solar-panels.lua. There you need change usage_priority in all solars panels on "solar". And you can play with mod ;)
Oh i see trookat was first :)

I've manually updated the code for the solar panels so that they will work with the newest version (0.12.24 as of this moment)
Replace the file "entity-solar-panels.lua" in \mods\Electricity_XyLe_1.0.0\prototypes with this one https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/836 ... s.lua?dl=0
Now all the solar panels will produce power just fine!

This sounds great! I'm getting really annoyed by the current weak solar panels.

Will give this a go.
