Issues with the new design

Post by Optera »

Some annoying changes where made and features removed when updating to the new design:
  1. Clicking the icon does not open a mods page
Normal internet usability would be to also have the image open the mod page
  2. Clicking on Factorio opens "trending"
Clicking logo should open the default page "recently uploaded"
  3. markdown tables are broken, html tables still don't work
Either remove "You can use Markdown for styling" or fully support all markdown features shown in the link you provide
  4. Editing description opens a measly 6 line text box
Dragging that box large every time is annoying.

Blockquotes on the discussion page lost their formatting, it is impossible tell quotes and replies apart.

Just posted that on the FFF thread, then saw this one, which seems more appropriate. So here it goes again:

At least on my laptop, I've an issue with the search function: Any text I input into the form is almost invisible because it's white on a very light background. The strange thing is, when I made a screenshot, the background turned into a gray tone, so the search text was readable there …
A good mod deserves a good changelog. Here's a tutorial (WIP) about Factorio's way too strict changelog syntax!

Having just used the mod portal again, here are 2 suggestions:
  • It would be nice if we could preview our posts on the discussion boards before submitting. Sometimes, markdown mark-up plays strange tricks, so being able to get a post right before pressing the Submit button would be a nice feature.
  • I also just noticed again that it's not possible to delete posts (only complete threads can be trashed). Made the mistake of clicking on the Quote instead of the Edit button and ended up with an edited copy of my original post. So users should be able to delete their own posts at any time. It might also be practical if "moderators" (i.e. the mod owner and collaborators) could delete individual posts of other users. But as there's a potential for abuse, I wouldn't insist on having this feature. :-)

The portal no longer provides a way to remember logins.
Why is there no "remember me" checkbox?

Agreed.

Why is the mod-portal discussion not just using same engine as main forums?

Some small things I found:

nav bar:
The right elements are always wrapping, wouldnt it be better, if the dont?

body:
The success element is staying behind and is getting overlapped from the buttons Recently updated etc.
Logging in puts you into trends, but it should put you into Recently updated.

Changelog Tab:
When you give the Changelog h2 a margin-left of 4px, it looks better.

Downloads Tab:
Edit releases is ALWAYS visible, even when its not your own mod or you are not logged in.
Removing the margin-right for the button Edit releases makes it alignt.
Removing the margin for the table below the button, it makes it alignt.

Blockquotes are now resupported again. (Although I prefer the original box to mark the code more clearly, it is still okay.)

There are two more things "unsupported" by the new design:
1/ Table border has vanished. It is quite important to make tables useful.
2/ The newline characters "\n" in mod summary text box (which is extracted from mod 'info.json') are no longer supported. Lines are collapsed to a single messy paragraph again...

Hope they will be supported again soon.

First picture is not scaled when used as thumbnail when the zip does not contain thumbnail.png.
Example: https://mods.factorio.com/mod/er-quickprint
Expected: Scale like before and like in the picture bar, or display centered?
Author of: Belt Planner, Hand Crank Generator, Screenshot Maker, /sudo and more.
Mod support languages: 日本語, Deutsch, English
My code in the post above is dedicated to the public domain under CC0.

Apropos pictures: Captions or ALT-text in the image gallery would still be useful. :-)

When you log into the mod portal, you get to the factorio.com website, not the mod portal.

When you have a mod with a hidden depency, but no other depency it shows nothing. But shouldnt it show "No depency" or so?
