[posila][for 0.17] Framerate issues

Post by Jon8RFC »

Similar issue to 58991, however not the same, because it occurs whether the "show turret range" is enabled or not, if that's helpful info. GPU is pegged at 99% according to gpu-z.

I hadn't noticed this before, until today.

You run the game with very exotic graphics settings.

I suggest you try using following options:

Code: Select all

[graphics]
cache-sprite-atlas-count=2
cache-sprite-atlas=true

graphics-quality=normal
video-memory-usage=all
max-texture-size=4096

low-quality-sprite-rotation=true
atlas-packing-optimization=true
texture-compression=auto
atlas-specialization=true
tree-sprite-mipmaps=true
trilinear-filtering=true
separate-lower-object-atlas=true

force-opengl=true
single-channel-textures=true
texture-streaming=false

Using the settings you suggested, at a zoom level of 5 zoom-outs, it improved from 19.0FPS to 19.2FPS, but still pegged at 99% in gpu-z, and normalizing to hardly any usage when leaving map view. It acts the same as the bug report...the worst when zoomed in, improving with each level zoomed out.

I should add that when I move the map view away from the turrets, the issue goes away. When moving back over them, the FPS plummets. So, I'm not sure how it's different from the bug report and got split into a technical help issue. I don't have framerate issues, and this only occurs in map view over the turrets.

It certainly looks related to the bug. You can see 4 gun turrets, and 4 laser turrets are below (shown when i enable the turret range), and the FPS is low, and goes right back to 60FPS when I leave map view.

Recorded with my phone so that the issue isn't affected by screen capture:

I split the thread because the original thread was about hugh performance hit caused by rendering of many turret ranges, each over large area of screen. So performance issue while no turret ranges are rendered on screen is different issue. It is quite interesting, though. Thanks for trying out the recommended settings, since it didn't help I'll move this back to bug reports. (can you also post log from run with the settings I recommended, please?)

Sure!

I did two fresh runs, and swapped out the config.ini between. I guess since I was even more particular about where I zoomed in to be closer to the same spot, the new graphics settings were about 0.3FPS lower, but it could be an acceptable statistical margin of error since it was just a 0.2FPS improvement before.

Let me know what else you need.

I am still not sure what exactly causes framerate issues on your computer, but performance of rendering was greatly improved in 0.17. If the issues persist for you in 0.17, please, let me know.
