Can No Longer Use Copy/Paste Early Game

So I've been playing Factorio for about a month now, and I've always had the ability to make use of the cut/copy/paste option as well as blueprints even in early game situations. I had to do a system reset recently which required reinstalling Factorio and when I fired the game up and loaded my save I found I no longer had access to any of these features, now being told it requires Construction Robotics Technology before I can use something as simple as copy. Before my reset I played both with and without mods on this save and had access to these options in both situations. Now, nothing in either case. Did I do something? Did I change an option or do I need to change one? I don't remember having tinkered with any unfamiliar settings options so I'm really confused by all of this.

You can enable it directly in the player-data.json or use the shortcuts.

I'm going to be completely honest with you, I don't know what any of this means. What's a json file? And if you are referring to the shortcuts on the right side of the toolbar, that is where the problem is.

Open console by pressing ~, then type /unlock-shortcut-bar

It should unlock missing buttons.

so that worked, and it seems now it's enabled even in a new game. Still confused as to how this happened, don't recall ever typing in that command but it's certainly possible I just forgot. Thanks!

Those buttons are disabled by default when you (re-)install Factorio (to protect new players from the blueprint addiction, probably ). They are usually unlocked when you research Construction Robotics for the first time. That's how you got them without commands.

Wtf... you can. This completely ruins all my attempts to create proper tech-locked shortcuts.
