When you run out of iron

Post by factoriobiker »

Do you need to move the base, or start using new mine far away and use train....is there in the future of the game any research that will allow to get iron anywhere not only from iron mines?

There is no tech avalible to get iron from any where. There is mining productivity resaech though that will help resources to last longer.

So when you run out, move base or us belts or trains to transport iron from a new ore field to your base.

Moving resources from one place (say, a mining outpost) to another place (say, your base) is exactly what trains are for. You can't get ore from anywhere that isn't a visible ore patch. Go mine it and train it back to your base.

The amount of ore increases with distance. If you go out far enough you can get patches with dozens or hundreds of millions of ore. Some people move their base far out to where ore is more plenty, but unless you build super huge factories that's not necessary. Just use trains.

Also an option is to reduce iron consumption.

- don't research stuff, which is not yet needed for the current moment
- red belts are often not needed for everything. yellow belts are cheap and often enough
- limit chests for expensive items.

- physical projectile damage research helps to reduce bullets
- losing turrets with big amounts of ammo is very expensive.
- grenades are cheap for instant kill big groups of small biters/spitters.
- flamethrower is very effective
- ...
