[Solved] Different speed of transport lanes in belt curves?

Don't know how to use a machine? Looking for efficient setups? Stuck in a mission?

[Solved] Different speed of transport lanes in belt curves?

Post by eradicator »

I'm confused right now. I thought some ancient version (0.15?) was supposed to have removed the speed difference on the "inner lane" of a belt. But the picture clearly shows different speeds for the two lanes, even though i can't seem to measure the difference with circuits. Can someone explain to me wtf is happening here?

It's the same thing that happens on every turn. The outside has to travel farther, which means it has the same throughput but higher latency.

That's what i intended to say, yes.

Latency, ofc, that makes sense. Physically it's obvious that the outer lane is longer.

Now i wonder even more what the thing was that i remember got "fixed" about curves. I'm sure they had some sort of quirk in old versions.

I think you remember how it worked pre 0.12. In 0.12 there was a change on how the items on the belt were calculated, I think that was the version that changed the speed of the items in corners.

Pre 0.12 couldn't maintain full belt compression around corners.
For full compression you had to either use a faster belt piece for the corner or in case with blue belts splice the belt before each corner, have two belts go around the corner and merge them afterwards. It was annoying as hell.

This! This is exactly what i meant! I always thought i started in 0.13, but my oldest save in the archive is 0.12, and i know i lost the first ones, so it must've been in 0.11. Gosh, 0.12.0 has it's 4th anniversary next month....

Thanks everyone for helping ;).
