Damage numbers on weapons

Damage numbers on weapons

I've tried to find an answer to this by searching, and failed.

On the laser turret, it says the shooting speed is 3 + 0.9/sec . What does that mean? 3 shots when an enemy comes in range, then a shot every 1.11 seconds?

It says the damage is 20 + 8 Laser. What does that mean? 20 physical damage plus 8 pernicious burn damage? 20 points of fright plus 8 points of laser damage?

Has nobody asked this before?

According to the wiki, laser turrets have:
  • Shooting speed: 3/s
  • Damage: 20 (laser)
These are the base values; laser turrets deal damage of type "laser", so it will be lower for enemies with resistance to laser damage and higher for enemies vulnerable to that damage type. You can research shooting speed/damage increase for different weapon types, therefore you get "base value + bonus by research". That's how I would interpret these figures. :-)
A good mod deserves a good changelog. Here's a tutorial (WIP) about Factorio's way too strict changelog syntax!

It's meant to be read like this: (3+.9) shots/second so 3.9 shots per second in total. Similar with the damage, (20+8) laser damage, for a total of 28. If a shot does multiple types of damage it'll read separately, eg something like:
20 laser
10 physical
