Assembler units

I have assembler units that are making Science packs. They receive inputs from 2 or 3 other assemblers but the output stops in the inserter assembler after 4 or 5 items are assembled. Is this a bug, or just a consequence of (my) bad design? I'd send a picture but .... well its embarrassing. My factory floor looks like an explosion in a spaghetti factory.

If you mean the output slot inside the assembly machine, then yes, this is intended, you need to output it with an inserter for it to continue producing.
