I have already unlocked all achievements on Steam and I am happy with Steam keeping my progression (play hours and achievements) saved.
However I want my new vanilla play-through to keep track of new per-save achievement progress.

So is RESET ACHIEVEMENTS game-play option safe?

There is some warning about it having some influence of Steam Achievement progress, but surely that should not affect me since I have all progression achievements already unlocked. The only reason I have not clicked that option is due to fear that it may actually hack away all my achievements stored on Steam servers.

AS I understand it that option should reset achievements on steam's servers, (if used in the steam version).

Easiest and safest way to achieve what you want is to download the .zip version of the game. That store save games and achievements etc separately from the steam version, and hence will allow you to track achievements for a separate install.

But this will break my game-play time record
