I thought the splitters were supposed to be able to do this

I thought the splitters would be able to take a belt with different products on either side of the belt and output them with all the iron plate on one side for example and all the gears on the other side. I've tried fiddling with the GUI that pops up, but none of the settings I've tried have made much difference. A mess goes in and a mess comes out.

Update to the latest experimental and use the filter function in splitters.
The described behaviour is removed with the belt optimisation and don't work without the filter anymore.
