How to turn off green light bar under objects

Occasionally a bar of square lights usually all bright green appear under the different objects. I don't know how I turned them on. I don't know how to turn them off. Can someone please direct me on how to turn them off to relieve the screen clutter? I've built my first rocket, this game is really great!

They're damage bars, repair the stuff with repair packs.
(I don't buy that story either. Playing with grenades? Wondering what C does?)

1. Rearrange your grenade belts, some extra grenades end up in your inventory.
2. Pick up the stack of grenades.
3. Try to open the military science assembling machine to put the grenades in.
4. BOOM!

My early Xanders/Rampant base looks like this all over the place because i can't afford repair packs yet :P

Damage bars only come up after the buildings have taken some damage. Sometimes clumsy players hit the wrong key and fire their weapons inside the factory. Hence, everybody's teasingly accusing you of hiding your clumsy grenade throw and acting like you don't know what happened

Given the screenshot is located in the middle of military science production with belted grenades accidental grenade throw is definitely what happened there.
Or a player did just go berserk for a while and started playtesting his new AP ammo on all surrounding objects... Yeah the last one is pretty unlikely...

Oh, I get it now. Yes, that did happen, I do remember doing that now. I have the aliens turned off so I can understand and learn the game without dealing with them so I am not up with 'damage' yet. This was self inflicted and I really appreciate your time to explain this to me. My kids are impressed that I am addicted to this game. Everything is now repaired and the green bars have disappeared.
