In my game, I have just researched steel, but am not being allowed to put iron plates in furnaces to smelt them into steel. Inserters cannot add them either. Am I doing something wrong?

I did take a quick look at the bugs section, but didn't see any promising-looking post titles, and the forum search doesn't let you search for "steel".
