boilers + steam engines

Edit: Pump - pipes with water - boilers + coal - pipes with hot water - steam engines - electricity

each steam engine needs to be connected to the electric network with a pole

As long as the boiler has fuel and is connected to a water source, then the steam engine, it should have power.

@boy1der: This is a forum, no chat. If you're too lazy to look some let's play or read into the wiki, you can't await much pleasure about this basic questions, cause the learning curve is steep and electric network is just the very, very early beginning. I've nothing against other questions like "where can I read more?" Etc. but those information can be searched also by yourself.

Find a body of water. Put a pump on a horizontal or vertical shoreline. Connect boilers to pump. Connect steam engines to boilers (or pipes) put fuel (coal/solid fuel) into the boilers. Put power lines (wood+copper bars) next to the steam engines (So that the engines are in the blue area) and then put your lab(s) under poles similarly.

This will help you with most questions you have. Also, i would recommend to play at least the first three or four campaign missions, as they function like a tutorial. You'll see a functioning steam engine there (and if i remember correctly you have to add another one). Also, you'll do some very simple production. When I saw it for the first time, i was like "... ... huh?", so building that completely for yourself in freeplay could be a bit overwhelming.
