Red/green wire in blueprint are free?

I noticed that if one of my blueprints contain any red/green wires (for circuit network) then those wires are not listed as the ingredients of the blueprints, and when those connections are created by the construction robots, I don't loose any from my inventory. Is this a bug, or is this by design? Seems weird to me.

Yeah I discovered this a little while ago and was quite surprised. It is kind of nice they just give you the wires for free when building it with robots.
