I've started 6 or 7 games now and have yet to launch a rocket =/ Keep getting frustrated with inefficient base design and starting over (ocd much... yes, yes I do). Just a couple quick newbie questions....
Can I add trees in the map editor? I've figured every else out just fine but cannot find where to add trees.
Do you add plastic and batteries on your main BUS? I've not made it to end game yet so I don't know how important these are later in the game (past blue science). Should they be a part of my BUS?
Couple Newbie Player Questions....

Yes, select the "Entities" editor from the top row (3rd from left button looks like an assembly machine), then in the Entities window below select the left-most tab (button looks like a tree!). Select the style you want and you can even change the "Tools" part to make it a large area brush to place a huge area of trees if you want.Scrogz wrote:Can I add trees in the map editor? Plastic has only one consumer that I know of off hand (advanced circuits) so I would not add it to the main bus. Batteries only have a few consumers apart from blue science (accumulators, laser turrets, power armor modules), so I wouldn't add those to my main bus either. I usually just have iron and copper plates as a bare minimum and then maybe also green electric circuits and steel.Do you add plastic and batteries on your main BUS? Its your decision in starting over, but i wonder why you dont tear down parts of your base you dislike and rebuild them. Personally this is one of the better features of Factorio that there no penalty in redesigning your base, so u can plop down the early base without having to think over the whole late base design and plan on it. Try out solutions for that bottleneck, if doesnt work or not enough throughput tear it down and build solution mk 2 and when thats obsolete mk 3.Scrogz wrote:I've started 6 or 7 games now and have yet to launch a rocket =/ Keep getting frustrated with inefficient base design and starting over (ocd much... yes, yes I do).

Usually i have either the plastic and battery consumers placed close to the manufacturing plants or i use logistic bots to move them around my base. As Kelderek said, there are to few consumers to justify a lane in the main bus, but then again who are we to judge if you decide to make it part of the main bus.

For things like adding Plastic or Batteries to the main bus, I think it is personal preference honestly. Batteries would probably be a good thing to add because they are used for quite a lot of stuff. Plastic on the other hand is really only used for Advanced Circuits so might not me worth running the whole way down the bus.
