Smart systems - any help?

Post by Davv »

Hi guys. It may be weird, but I think I'm too stopid for "smart" systems. I mean, I want to make my small factory those things:
- mine iron and coal until 20 of both,
- then stop mining(or just getting it into chest/second conveyor), until again <20.

After that, those resources go to assembler, so they're used. And process repeat. I just need those two first things to get started, I think. So, can anybody show me, in images or with words? I don't want YT tutorials, if it's possible, because I don't have good net for watching it, really.

Did you read this page on wiki? https://forums.factorio.com/wiki/inde ... it_network
I think smart inserter and smart chest connected with wire is all you need.

You can use the X slider on a chest if you are ok with increments of 50.

I think this is what you are asking for:
20 mined coal items will be stored in the smart chest. After that, all mined items will be placed on the belt to be delivered to the factory.

Thanks for your help guys. I'll try each of yours solutions. My goal is, to don't make my conveyors full, so I can make my factories simplier(if it's even possible in this game ;P) and cheaper(because assemblies aren't so cheap like just two smart inserters).

If this don't help me, then I'll ask for more, or "upgrades" for those solutions.

And @Martc, I used wiki to learn what's those red and green wires yesterday, when I discovered them, but I'm really too dumb, that's why I asked now there, in forums. Anyway, wiki don't say much about that in my opinion.

@edit

Method mentioned by @DerivePi worked good, but I still don't know why there's two types of wires. Why can't I use green wires instead of red? Or can I?

Feel free to replace all of the red wires with green wires. They do the same. When you feel up to it, you can connect both a green wire system and a red wire system to the same smart inserter for more complicated systems (for dual wire systems, both the red condition AND the green condition are required to be met for the inserter to operate).
