Use construction bots to do stuff with no provider/buffer chests in the network?
Use construction bots to do stuff with no provider/buffer chests in the network?
Before leaving Nauvis I've placed down some roboports with construction bots, but I forgot to setup any provider or buffer chests. Are the bots useless now or is there a way to make them do something? I'm currently stranded on Vulcanus so I can only act remotely. I've tried to setup buffer chest construction by hijacking an assembler in my mall and deconstructing some belts, hoping that bots holding items will be able to deliver them. Unfortunately, they need a buffer chests to put items in before they can take those items somewhere else.

You can use any of the logistic chests to make the construction robots do work.
Provider and buffer chests aren't required and you can technically only use storage chests and it'll still work.
If you are on Vulcanus, so long as the worms are permitting on resources, you should be able to fully build another rocket and get off of it.
the last option is just reload a prior save :')

Well yeah, I know I can leave Vulcanus *eventually* I was wondering if I can do something on Nauvis earlier than that considering my situation. Other logistic chests, well, the issue is I haven't set up any. I only have bots with no items to work with. Reloading an earlier save is a bit drastic, especially that I've already made quite a bit of progress on Vulcanus. My core issue is that my Nauvis defenses aren't the best and while they'll last a while, they won't last forever. So I have sort of a (relaxed) time limit and I was trying to get rid of it
Edit: Ah, just realized, I got confused and kept saying "buffer chest" where I meant "storage chest", sorry

How do you have base bots with no logistics chests anywhere...?
Re: Use construction bots to do stuff with no provider/buffer chests in the network?
I was going to Vulcanus so I thought "better set up some construction bots, gotta be able to do stuff remotely" so I've placed down some roboports, but didn't place any logistic chests because of course I didn't

At that point, you could probably 'phone a friend'GOKOP wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 12:27 am Well yeah, I know I can leave Vulcanus *eventually* I was wondering if I can do something on Nauvis earlier than that considering my situation. and if you aren't keen on opening the world up, then it'd be time to be down in the trenches on Vulcanus.
If you can't get anyone you can DM me I'd be okay with hopping on for like 10 minutes to replace/craft new chests for you.

Try having a bot pick up an assembler, belts, and inserter and place them at your steel line, set the assembler to make the logistic chests, then remove the assembler onxe its crafted, not sure if it will work but you could give it a shot
Re: Use construction bots to do stuff with no provider/buffer chests in the network?
@Mightyloly I'm not that desperate, as I said it will take a while before my Nauvis defenses fail. If there's nothing I can do by myself I can handle that, I was just wondering if there's something I can. Seems like there isn't. Thanks for the help offer though
@Totalstranger Well as I said in the original post, it didn't work
So basically it seems like Nauvis will have to manage itself until I'm done on Vulcanus; thanks to y'all for the help anyway

So you have a construction bot holding a storage chest (yellow one), and you have a storage chest ghost next to it, and it won't place it down?
Edit: I tried this in editor mode and it worked.

Hmm, did you set up a Cargo landing pad by any chance before leaving ?
Or even without that, might you be able to use the rocket chest as a kind of logistic chest without even going into space ? (Though how to get items there in the first place...)
Maybe something could be done with ground-dropped items moved by inserters or belt-dropped items ??

Re: Use construction bots to do stuff with no provider/buffer chests in the network?
I have an assembler where I've requested red circuits by placing ghost items in it (this should be performed by construction bots in 2.0) and I have bots floating with red circuits nowhere to go. I get a no storage notification (for red circuits in bot hands) and missing materials notification (for red circuit ghosts in the assmebler) and the bots just sit there above the belts they've deconstructed doing nothing
If that worked then I'd be able to transport a steel chest into the assembler in the same fashion and succesfully craft a storage chest
Re: Use construction bots to do stuff with no provider/buffer chests in the network?
You need to use construction bots to build belts, inserters and assemblers. It's too soon to use logistics requests. You need to make that 1 yellow chest first in the hard way. Make sure you have a ghost of it placed, so that once it is in a hand of a construction bot it will be built.GOKOP wrote: ↑Mon Nov 04, 2024 11:57 pmI have an assembler where I've requested red circuits by placing ghost items in it (this should be performed by construction bots in 2.0) and I have bots floating with red circuits nowhere to go. Also you will be completely stuck if all your bots will be floating with item in hand, waiting for that yellow chest. At that point you won't even be able to make it. So load game back if you get another floating bot.
