i made an optimal lab setup for 0.15
i made an optimal lab setup for 0.15
at least i think it will be optimal. since there are 6 types of science i figured i would make a setup that can be fed into labs on both sides.
i made a youtube video about it.

let me know what you think.

looks good to me. its space efficient. i cant think of a better way to compact it. its tile able. beacon-able. i cant really see any issue with it personally. seems to be a good evolution of the dual belt lab setup. ill be shamelessly borrowing this design come .15

Re: i made an optimal lab setup for 0.15
Yeap, looks great!
That's almost exactly as how I build my production lines, where the assembly machines put their items on belts on either side..
(Yea, I'm not in a hurry ).
You see this Devs? We're ready to rock and roll 0.15 style. Bring it on!

Hi Troytech,
your layout gave me an idea (slightly modified) (i don't like zig-zagging power lines). though this is more expensive of an option (more underground belts) and requires medium power poles (yours looks to work with the starting poles). Some lights added (ok too many lights )
Was the talk of the 6 sciences in a FFF? i must have missed that one.

Re: i made an optimal lab setup for 0.15
my only problem with this is it repeats every 2 labs vertically, instead of being drop and drag like mine. mine you can click to drop the blueprint and run. i dont know if this one can or not.Serathen wrote:Hi Troytech,

Re: i made an optimal lab setup for 0.15
I didn't try and drag it to place it like you did. Not sure that would work but I'll try when I get home tonight. It can still be places very fast with blueprints.
Re: i made an optimal lab setup for 0.15
Depending on how exactly the other sciences balance out, I would think the simpler layout of two belts up the middle would be easier to set up in the early game. To allow for the last two sciences, just reserve space for the last two sciences to be split and run up the outside of the labs.
Re: i made an optimal lab setup for 0.15
DerivePi, you could do that but that eliminates the ability to loop it back around as cleanly.
Troytech,, i tested it and you can place and hold and run to place them down.
There are lots of ways to deliver the science packs and Troys just gave me an idea that i liked and plan to use once .15 is out.

Re: i made an optimal lab setup for 0.15
Although it seems to make sense to loop science packs, consider:
- While the science packs are on their return trip, they are not being consumed
- It is likely, where more than one science pack type is being fully consumed, that the labs will have mismatched science packs. Ex. green and blue science are in short supply. Lab 1 has red purple and green and lab 22 has red purple and blue.
- A dead end belt of science packs only stores, for each type, about 5.3 extra science packs per research center. At end game when techs take 60 secs, this is 5 1/2 minutes of backlog, but consider that those techs require 100 cycles or more and the production of science packs should be ongoing.
- Once placed, a loop will lock out the ability to expand the research centers

Re: i made an optimal lab setup for 0.15
I understand its not the most efficient. I just like the aesthetics of it.
I also normally build less labs than the the production can fill as well so there is always a backup. Not the most efficient way, but its fun for me.

Re: i made an optimal lab setup for 0.15
I made it the same way but with small electric poles!

HAHA that is to funny. I built one last night without looking and saw this, wanted to compare ideas. The above pic is EXACTUALLY what I built.
Minus the lights.

Am I missing something or aren't there seven science pack types now? Meaning three lanes doesn't get it done...

Re: i made an optimal lab setup for 0.15
This design is more efficient and can also deliver all seven science packs:
