What if you make the fast inserter needing lubricant to build similar to express belts?
It would make the early midgame harder since you have to factor lubricant production into your layout for blue science packs but I think it makes sense thematically and adds a nice challenge early midgame.

So to make the jump from green to blue you have to build an entire oil industry, plastics, advanced circuits, and batteries. Smart inserters (which require fast inserters as input) are relatively complex themselves. You want to add lubricant into the mix? This is not needed IMO for 2 reasons.
1. Blue is already a gigantic leap in complexity from Green.
2. It's actually pretty trivial to make lubricant. All your proposal would do is create an extra pipe we have to run to our factory.
