Connection Attempts only once?

Hi all was looking around but couldn't see anything in regards to this.
I have rented a server, it is running and has a valid connection. I managed to connect to the server then needed to update it however what I want to know is why FActorio only attempts to connect to the server for like 3 seconds then gives up. Is there a way to make my factorio attempt more times. I live in Australia and the average server Ping on public servers is about 200. On other games it normally takes me about 2 attempts to connect to a server.
