Translations have moved to crowdin, we no longer accept files or repositories.

The language shortcut is refered as <langauge> (en For English etc).
  • The encoding is utf8 withoug BOM (I advice using Notepad++ for this)
  • If you need to use a different font (special characters), just make directory fonts in the locale directory of your language. And specify the font in /locale/<language>/font-settings.cfg
Files:
  • core // Part of game that is always needed
    • /locale/<language>
      • /font-settings.cfg // Specification of fonts to use
      • /controls.cfg
      • /description-labels.cfg
      • /gui.cfg
      • /misc.cfg
      • /tips-and-tricks/<language>.json
      • control-labels ... Not possible now
  • base // The base mod, with the default content, the game can run without it but will contain nothing
    • /locale/<language>
      • /entity-descriptions.cfg
      • /entity-names.cfg
      • /item-descriptions.cfg
      • /item-names.cfg
      • /technology-names.cfg
    • /campaign
      • /demo
        • /locale/<language>.json
        • /level-01/locale/<language>.cfg
        • /level-02/locale/<language>.cfg
        • /level-03/locale/<language>.cfg
      • /alpha
        • /locale/<language>.json
        • /level-01/locale/<language>.cfg
        • /level-02/locale/<language>.cfg
The best way to contribute to locale is to create/contribute to the repository if you know how,
If you don't know how, just download the zip package of the repository content, update it, and post it here (in the topic of the translation).
Git translation repositories (alphabetically):

The encoding of the text file must be UTF-8 without BOM. Otherwise the game wont accept some special characters like ä,ö,ü,ß in German language

In the next release (hopefuly today), there is chance to specify custom fonts for the language, so you can use these character as long as you provide font that supports them.

I would love if you guys made a language template. Just zip all the files we'd need to edit to make a new language for the game. Im sure people would love to make fun languages like Kilngon or h4X0R.

It would add something interested for people to find while exploring the settings page.

Please keep me updated.

In which order are the locale/<language>/*.cfg files parsed?
Is it possible to refer to keys within *.cfg files too or is it only for *.json files?

The order is not specified (it just grabs all the files and processes)
It is also not possible to refer to keys from cfg now.
Is there something you would like it to use for?

Is there a way to turn a line into a comment which is not parsed. Like // in C++.
If not: could you add it? It would ease the translation coordination with comment directly in the file

You can comment using the '#' symbol at start of the line, this works both in config files and in locale files.
It is not possible to comment the json files (campaign descriptions)

example

Code: Select all

[controls]
#key to move up (works for the character as in the map editor)
move-up=Nahoru

Can you impement it for json files please?

No, it is not possible (json structure doesn't allow it).

But we just decided, there is no good reason to have it in json anyway, so this is the plan:
  • I will make conversion script, json -> cfg
  • before releasing 0.2.9 I will get all the translations you have
  • I will transfer all translation jsons to cfg
  • Release
  • You can get the new format from the release in the cfg and continue using that.

Hey! So, as you probablt know, I'm making polish translation and I need polish characters. For example (controls) move up should be "idź w górę", but in game it's "id". The rest is not even showing like blask squares, it's just not in there. For now i made about 80% of GUI, then I'm moving to demo and it will be really handy if I could test translation in-game. Co, if anyone can help me putting polish characters into game I'll be really happy :)
PS. In MS Word i can install and write with built-in fonts and polish characters are normal, so I guess it's not font, but game itself.

Please try to keep your English repository synced with the latest experimental release. It is easier to keep track on changes through github and so it is easier to provide latest translation when a experimental release becomes final.

It is synced.
I just pushed changes for 0.8.1 as well.

The current experimental release includes 4 levels in beta campaign, but there are only two on the github repository.
