Mouse buttons locales question for translators

We are considering a system to allow for more natural phrasing of controls locales. This would allow us to say things like "Left click to open the chest" instead of "Use Left mouse button to open the chest".
This would be implemented by adding in two alternative modes of the mouse button locales, alt-1 and alt-2.

For example, with the following locale data:

Code: Select all

mouse-button-1=Left mouse button
mouse-button-1-alt-1=Left click
mouse-button-1-alt-2=left clicking
We could produce :

Left click to open chest.
Open chest by left clicking.

Note: The reason to have these two forms: the first is intended as a command to the player (so, imperative). The second is intended to go in a list of hints, so the first word (or as close to the first word as can be) should be the action itself. This is so the player can scan the first words in a list of sentences for eg, open, and then continue on the line to find out how to "open".

These would be accessed via alternative versions of the control's locale, eg:

Code: Select all

Open chest by __CONTROL__open-gui__alt-2__.
would produce:
Open chest by left clicking.

In English, alt-1 would be used for imperative, and alt-2 for this "-ing" form, but in other languages it could be other language-specific forms.
This special system will only be used for mouse buttons, so there is no need to account for keyboard keys.
If there are modifiers on a keybinding, they would be added on with a +, like in the controls settings gui, eg:
Control + Left click to open chest.
Open chest by Control + left clicking.

Is this system sufficient for all the languages we support? Please let me know either way, and detail the problems if there are any.
Thanks!
Tom

Looking good, this system will come in handy. Don't see any problems for ru locale (yet). :)

In French the initial version is actually more natural than the different equivalents we have for the 2 alts you suggest. I guess we'll just keep the button name and we'll be good.
[Open chest by] [Control +] [left clicking].
[Ouvrir le coffre avec] [Control +] [Clic gauche].
[Control +] [Left click] [to open chest].
[Control +] [Clic gauche] [pour ouvrir le coffre].
For french speakers

In short: fine by me. :-)
